Trump floats letting Iran strike Los Angeles and San Diego

Original: Trump suggests letting Iran ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego at campaign event

At a campaign event, Donald Trump suggested the idea of allowing Iran to 'take out' the California cities of Los Angeles and San Diego. The remark drew attention for its casual reference to a nuclear-armed adversary attacking major American cities, and critics described it as reckless. It has since circulated widely in US political coverage.

Why now: A presidential candidate joking about a hostile power attacking two US cities is provocative and newsworthy.
