Employees at Ninja Theory, the Cambridge-based studio behind Hellblade, are reporting their dismissal amid a fresh round of job cuts. The news lands just months after parent company Microsoft grandly presented the studio's new game Senua in June. The layoffs add to a wave of cuts across the games industry, prompting criticism of Microsoft's treatment of acquired studios.

Why now: The cuts come shortly after Microsoft heavily promoted Ninja Theory's new game, making the layoffs striking and controversial.
