Original: Rare Siberian blue # robin touches down in birdwatcher’s Shetland garden # UK # birding scene was set alight when # bird

Birdwatcher Hugh Harrop discovered a Siberian blue robin in his Shetland garden, only the fifth recorded sighting of the species in Britain and the seventh in Europe. The rare visitor has excited the UK birding community, with enthusiasts discussing the remarkable appearance of a bird normally found in Siberia so far west.

Why now: A species almost never seen in Britain or Europe turning up in a private garden is a major event for birders.
