EU Delays Methane Emission Rules for Exporters by a Year
Original: Exporters to Get Extra Year for EU’s Methane Emission Rules, Von Der Leyen Says
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says exporters will get an extra year to comply with the EU's methane emission rules, softening the timeline for the regulation that targets imports of oil, gas and coal. The reprieve gives foreign suppliers more time to meet the bloc's standards, and is likely to be welcomed by trading partners who warned of compliance burdens.
Why now: The announced one-year delay affects major energy exporters and signals EU flexibility on green trade rules.
