US envoy holds rare meeting with Sudan's army chief in Egypt
Original: US envoy in rare meeting with Sudan's army chief in Egypt
A US envoy has met Sudan's army chief in a rare face-to-face meeting held in Egypt. The talks come as Sudan's civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces continues to fuel one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. Diplomatic engagement with the army leadership has been limited, making the meeting notable for international efforts to push toward a ceasefire and political resolution.
Why now: Diplomatic momentum around ending Sudan's civil war is drawing attention to renewed US engagement with the army leadership.
