Sudanese refugee journey reveals a world of closed borders
Original: The only place left is the moon: A Sudanese journey through a world of closed borders
A Sudanese man's attempt to flee the country's war is documented in a first-person account of being turned away from country after country. The story traces the route through multiple borders that remain shut to Sudanese fleeing the conflict, ending with the bitter conclusion that the only place left to go is the moon. It highlights how few safe options exist for those escaping Sudan's war.
Why now: The Sudan war continues to displace people while most neighbouring states keep their borders closed, making the story resonate widely.
