Microsoft has announced that Windows Subsystem for Linux containers is now generally available, according to a post on the Windows Developer Blog dated September 29, 2026. The release lets developers run containers within WSL directly on Windows. The announcement drew modest discussion among developers, who are weighing what it means for container workflows without Docker Desktop or other third-party tooling.

Why now: Developers are discussing the release because it changes how containers can be run natively on Windows machines.
