British and Irish golf clubs spotlight members working as caddies
Original: O Captain! My Caddie! Clubs in the British Isles boast members at work
Golf Digest highlights caddies across clubs in the British Isles who are themselves members of the courses where they work. The piece, riffing on Walt Whitman's 'O Captain! My Captain!', examines this longstanding tradition in Britain and Ireland, where club members commonly carry bags for fellow golfers, a practice that contrasts with caddie culture elsewhere in the golfing world.
Why now: Interest in the distinctive tradition of member-caddies at clubs in the British Isles, brought to attention by a new Golf Digest feature.
