University of Florida police expand mental health co-responder program
Original: UFPD co-responder program expands mental health response on campus
The University of Florida Police Department is expanding its co-responder program, which pairs officers with mental health professionals to handle crisis calls on campus. The expansion means more incidents involving students in distress can be met with clinical support rather than enforcement alone. The program is part of a broader shift in campus policing toward mental health-focused responses.
Why now: Universities are under growing attention to improve how campus police handle mental health crises.
