Borrell urges EU defence autonomy over import reliance

Original: josep borrell

Josep Borrell has called for greater European autonomy in defence, saying that 60% of the defence industry is imported. Speaking in Spain, the former EU foreign policy chief argued that Europe must produce more of its own military equipment. His comments come amid ongoing debate over Europe's capacity to defend itself and reduce dependence on foreign arms suppliers.

Why now: Ongoing European debate over defence self-sufficiency and security has kept Borrell's remarks in the spotlight.
