US Army to carry out first firing squad execution since 1945
Original: pena di morte
The United States Army is set to carry out a death sentence by firing squad for the first time since 1945. The decision is drawing attention in Italy and abroad, reviving debate over capital punishment and the methods used to carry it out, with commentators questioning the rarity and legality of such an execution in the modern era.
Why now: The announcement of a firing squad execution, the first in the US military in nearly 80 years, has reignited debate over the death penalty.
