Sega launched an official Sonic the Hedgehog Discord server, and it was flooded with around 50,000 members within six hours. Moderators have enforced strict family-friendly rules on the new channel, a stance drawing attention given Sonic fandom's internet culture and meme-heavy history. Gamers are watching to see whether the moderation can hold up under the sudden influx.
Why now: The huge, sudden influx of members clashing with strict family-friendly moderation is generating conversation among gamers.
