MeshCore, a decentralized mesh messaging system, is gaining attention among technology enthusiasts. It uses inexpensive LoRa radios to pass messages between devices directly, with no internet connection, cellular network, or third-party cloud service involved. Commenters highlight its appeal for off-grid communication, emergency preparedness, and privacy, and note growing interest in building community mesh networks with low-cost hardware.
Why now: Interest in decentralized, off-grid communication tools is rising as people look for alternatives that do not depend on internet providers or big tech clouds.
