DIY $6 chip lets ChatGPT answer phone calls on a regular SIM
Original: Show HN: ChatGPT answers calls on a normal SIM. No Twilio, just a $6 ESP32
A developer has shown a setup in which ChatGPT answers incoming calls on a standard SIM card, using only a $6 ESP32 microcontroller and no telephony services like Twilio. The project suggests anyone could build a cheap AI call-answering device from off-the-shelf parts, and it is drawing attention from developers interested in low-cost AI telephony experiments.
Why now: Hackers and developers find it remarkable that AI call handling can run without paid telephony infrastructure using a $6 microcontroller.
