Wildlife rabies vaccine drop begins Wednesday in the Tri-Cities
Original: Wildlife rabies vaccine drop to begin Wednesday in the Tri-Cities
Health and wildlife officials in the Tri-Cities area of northeast Tennessee and southwest Virginia will begin dropping oral rabies vaccines for wildlife starting Wednesday. The baits, typically distributed by air and by hand along wooded areas, are aimed at immunizing raccoons and other animals to stop the spread of rabies. Residents are being reminded not to touch the baits if they find them, and to keep pets away.
Why now: The annual vaccine baiting operation is starting this week, prompting local coverage and reminders for residents about safety around the baits.
