Original: mikaela shiffrin

American skier Mikaela Shiffrin says she plans to enter fewer slalom races next season in order to concentrate more on giant slalom and Super-G. The two-time Olympic champion, already the most successful World Cup racer in history, is reshaping her calendar as she targets speed disciplines alongside her technical events, a shift now drawing attention among ski racing fans.

Why now: Shiffrin's plan to scale back slalom entries is newsworthy for winter sports fans ahead of the ski season.
