Tiny glowing lanternshark discovered off Mauritius
Original: squalo
A new lanternshark has been discovered in the waters off Mauritius, and it is small enough to fit in a hand. The species is notable for its bioluminescence, the ability to produce its own light, and researchers believe it may set a record related to its size. Italian outlets, including Il Messaggero, are covering the find, drawing attention to how much of the deep ocean's shark life remains undocumented.
Why now: The discovery of a new glowing shark species is striking news that highlights how little is still known about deep-sea life.
