A Popular Science report describes a remarkable ability in bullfrog brains: they can run on a backup fuel source, allowing brain cells to keep functioning when their usual energy supply is cut off. The finding is drawing attention for what it could reveal about metabolism and resilience in the brain, including possible implications for understanding how other animals, and potentially humans, cope with oxygen and energy loss.
Why now: A new Popular Science article about the unusual metabolic ability of bullfrog brains is being shared widely.
