Tom Cruise's 'Lasting Film' Comments Precede Box Office Flop
Original: Tom Cruise Said He Doesn’t Make Movies for ‘Opening Weekend’ Right Before ‘Digger’ Bombed: ‘You Hope to Make a Film That Can Last’
Tom Cruise recently said he does not make movies for opening weekend, telling an interviewer he hopes to "make a film that can last." The remarks drew renewed attention after his latest film, "Digger," opened to weak box office results. Commentators noted the awkward timing between his comments on longevity and the film's poor debut.
Why now: The irony of his remarks about longevity coming just as his new film bombed at the box office made the timing newsworthy.
