Trump approves US Army firing squad execution
Original: Trump approves US Army’s first execution by firing squad since World War II
President Trump has approved the first execution by firing squad in the United States Army since World War II. The decision marks a rare revival of a method of execution that has not been used by the military in roughly eight decades. The identity of the condemned soldier and the timing of the execution were not stated in the initial report, and reaction to the decision is still emerging.
Why now: The approval of a firing squad execution, unused by the US military since World War II, is an extraordinary and controversial act that draws wide attention.
