Thune presses Trump for more funding in battleground races
Original: Thune presses Trump for more funding toward battleground races red
Senate Republican leader John Thune is pressing Donald Trump to direct more funding toward competitive congressional races, arguing party resources are concentrated on safe red districts instead of winnable battlegrounds. The push reflects concern among Senate Republicans that underfunded candidates in swing states could cost the party seats and weaken its grip on Congress.
Why now: Republicans are jockeying over campaign money ahead of upcoming elections, with control of Congress at stake.
