Saint-Denis Mayor Bagayoko Hit by Tear Gas at Student Protest

Original: bagayoko

Bally Bagayoko, the mayor of Saint-Denis, was exposed to tear gas while present at a student mobilisation in France. The mayor, himself affected by the police agents, called for a de-escalation of tensions. His presence alongside lycée students and the images of a public official caught in crowd-control measures have drawn wide attention to the ongoing protests.

Why now: Images of a mayor being hit by tear gas during the student protests are striking and fuel debate over policing at demonstrations.
