Questions over road budget tied to farm minister Yanagi's election support

Original: 簗大臣

Japanese media are questioning whether road construction allocations for Tochigi's 3rd district rose and fell in line with Agriculture Minister Kazuo Yanagi's election campaigns. The Tokyo Shimbun reports an odd coincidence between budget increases and cuts and local election support, prompting criticism and online debate about the use of public works spending for political gain.

Why now: Fresh reporting has raised suspicion that public road funding was used to reward the minister's political allies, fuelling discussion in Japan.
