Commemorative meetings marking the 65th anniversary of Daisaku Ikeda's first visit to Asia were held in Thailand and Singapore in September. Ikeda, the late president of the Soka Gakkai International Buddhist movement, first toured the region in 1961, when only a handful of members lived in Thailand and none in Singapore. Representatives gathered to reflect on the growth of the movement across Asia since that trip.

Why now: Anniversary events honouring Ikeda's historic 1961 Asia tour drew attention from the movement's members and supporters.
