Zelenskyy Hosts Israeli and German Leaders at Babyn Yar Anniversary
Original: Zelenskyy Hosts Israeli and German Leaders at Babyn Yar 85th Anniversary
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed Israeli and German leaders at Babyn Yar in Kyiv to mark the 85th anniversary of the 1941 Nazi massacre, one of the worst mass killings of the Holocaust. The joint commemoration carries strong symbolic weight amid Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, with the site itself damaged by a Russian strike earlier in the conflict.
Why now: The rare joint appearance of Ukrainian, Israeli and German leaders at a Holocaust memorial site is a historically and politically significant moment amid the war.
