Rahul Gandhi claims police beat students during internet shutdown
Original: राहुल गांधी
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said internet services were cut off and police were beating students, speaking on his programme 'Chhatron ki Goonj'. Separately, his release from detention led Congress workers to end their fast and demand answers from the government. The remarks have sparked political debate in India, with the party pressing authorities over the treatment of students and Gandhi's detention.
Why now: Gandhi's allegations of police violence against students and his recent detention have made him a focal point of Indian political news.
