Original: Art of Elan performs ambitious Messiaen piece beneath the Anza-Borrego stars
Art of Elan staged an ambitious performance of Olivier Messiaen's music in the open air of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, with musicians playing beneath the night sky. The San Diego-based chamber group is known for unconventional venues, and the desert setting gave the piece a striking natural backdrop. Coverage highlights the blend of challenging contemporary classical music and the dramatic Southern California landscape.
Why now: The unusual pairing of a demanding Messiaen work with a desert night-sky venue is drawing local attention.
