Melat Kiros, Fired Over Gaza, Heads to Congress
Original: Fired Over Gaza. Now Melat Kiros is Headed to Congress
Melat Kiros, who says she was fired over her stance on Gaza, is now headed to Congress. The story of her dismissal and subsequent political rise is drawing wide attention, with supporters framing it as a rebuke of institutions that punished employees for speaking out on the Israel-Gaza war and as a sign of the issue's continuing force in US politics.
Why now: Her journey from being fired over Gaza activism to winning a path to Congress resonates with ongoing debate over free speech and the Gaza war in US politics.
