SpaceX Landing Tank Test Article Destroyed in Ground Test
Original: SpaceX LOX Landing Tank Test Article RUDs at Masseys
A SpaceX liquid oxygen landing tank test article broke apart during testing at the Massey's test site near Starbase, Texas. Rapid unscheduled disassembly, as such failures are known, refers to a test article being destroyed during ground testing. Such events are routine in SpaceX's iterative development approach, where hardware is tested to failure to gather data, and the incident is drawing attention from spaceflight watchers tracking Starbase progress.
Why now: Space watchers closely track every Starbase test, and hardware failures at the site draw immediate attention.
