Canadian conservatives accused of using cricket as anti-immigrant dog whistle
Original: It’s very amusing to watch up close as Canadian conservatives turn cricket, of all things, into a racist dog whistle abo
Canadian conservatives are being accused of turning cricket, a sport associated with South Asian immigrant communities, into a coded attack on immigrants accused of failing to assimilate. Critics say the rhetoric is a racist dog whistle rather than a genuine debate about sport or culture, and the accusation is drawing attention in political commentary.
Why now: Commentators are calling out immigration-related rhetoric in Canadian politics that they say targets immigrant communities through sports culture.
