India's telecom department terminates RCOM spectrum licences

Original: RELIANCE COMMUNICATIONS: DOT TERMINATES SPECTRUM ASSIGNED TO RCOM GROUP WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT

The Department of Telecommunications has terminated the spectrum assigned to Reliance Communications and its group entities with immediate effect. The move marks a sharp escalation for the Anil Ambani-led carrier, which has been battling insolvency proceedings and mounting dues. Market watchers are watching fallout for creditors, customers and the broader telecom sector.

Why now: The sudden termination of RCOM's spectrum is a major regulatory blow to an already distressed telecom group.
