Emergency declarations as storm threatens Gulf and measles spreads

Original: emergency

Governors in two US states have declared emergencies. Florida's Ron DeSantis announced a state of emergency for north Florida as a tropical system threatens the Gulf Coast, with residents stocking up on sandbags ahead of possible hurricane impacts. In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul declared an emergency as measles cases surge upstate. Emergency crews elsewhere are running mock disaster drills, while Kazakhstan is highlighting medical aviation for emergency care across its vast distances.

Why now: A developing Gulf tropical threat and a measles outbreak are prompting emergency declarations and preparations in multiple states.
