Original: Seoul mayor says capital ideal for 2036 Olympics, co-hosting talks await details
Seoul's mayor has declared the South Korean capital an ideal host city for the 2036 Summer Olympics, while saying talks about possibly co-hosting the Games with North Korea will wait until more details are available. The remarks signal renewed intent by Seoul to bid for the Games, decades after it staged the 1988 Olympics, and revive discussion of inter-Korean sporting cooperation.
Why now: The mayor's comments put Seoul back in the frame as a 2036 Olympic bidder and touch on the sensitive idea of co-hosting with North Korea.
