Russia marks 20 years since Anna Politkovskaya's murder

Original: анна политковская

Twenty years have passed since the killing of journalist and human rights campaigner Anna Politkovskaya, who was shot dead in Moscow in October 2006 after reporting on the war in Chechnya and government abuses. Deutsche Welle and others note that her killers were hired out but those who ordered the murder were never identified, arguing Russia has drawn no lessons from her death.

Why now: The 20th anniversary of her assassination has prompted renewed reflection on unresolved justice for her murder.
