President Donald Trump told Time magazine in an interview that he regrets nominating each of the three Supreme Court justices he appointed during his first term. The comment is drawing attention because those appointments shifted the court to a solid conservative majority, and remarks from a president who shaped its composition carry weight in debates over its rulings and independence.

Why now: Trump's statement that he regrets his own Supreme Court picks is striking news about a president who transformed the court's balance.
