New York measles emergency echoes Rockland County outbreak
Original: How NY measles disaster emergency compares to prior Rockland outbreak
New York has declared a disaster emergency over a measles outbreak, and coverage is drawing direct comparisons to the 2018-2019 Rockland County outbreak, which prompted emergency orders and a divisive vaccination ban for unvaccinated minors in public places. Commentators are weighing whether the new measures match or exceed those earlier responses and what they signal about measles control in the state.
Why now: A new disaster emergency declaration has revived memories and debates from the earlier Rockland County measles outbreak.
