LIFE programme funds peatland restoration across Europe
Original: LIFE supports peatland restoration and climate action across Europe
The EU's LIFE programme is funding peatland restoration projects across Europe as part of wider climate action efforts. Restoring degraded peatlands is considered one of the most cost-effective ways to cut emissions, since damaged peat releases large amounts of carbon dioxide. The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, which manages the programme, highlighted ongoing support for these nature-based climate measures.
Why now: Peatland restoration is drawing attention as a key nature-based tool in EU climate policy.
