Grave shopkeepers dread Sinterklaas parade hitting sales

Original: stikken

Entrepreneurs in Grave, the Netherlands, are warning that the annual Sinterklaasintocht parade could cost them significant revenue. Local news outlet De Gelderlander reports that some shop owners fear the crowds and street closures will keep regular customers away on the day of the festive arrival. One shopkeeper summed up the dilemma with the phrase 'stikken of slikken' — effectively 'choke or swallow it' — signalling frustration with limited options to avoid the loss.

Why now: The Sinterklaasintocht is imminent or recently took place, prompting local business owners to voice concerns about lost trade.
