Communities fear health toll as Trump weakens pollution limits
Original: Communities worry for their health after Trump weakens pollution limits: 'It's a kick in the gut'
The Trump administration has moved to weaken federal pollution limits, prompting alarm in communities near industrial sites. Residents and local officials say looser emissions rules could worsen asthma, heart disease and other health problems, with one describing the change as 'a kick in the gut'. Environmental and public health groups warn the rollback will hit low-income and minority neighborhoods hardest, while industry backers argue the rules were overly burdensome.
Why now: A federal rollback of pollution rules is prompting immediate concern among residents about health impacts in affected communities.
