Original: Reading advocates want police to act on U visa requests

Immigrant advocates in Reading, Pennsylvania are calling on the city's police department to act on pending requests to certify applications for U visas, which protect crime victims who cooperate with law enforcement. Critics say delays in processing these requests leave vulnerable immigrants in legal limbo and discourage cooperation with police, while supporters of the department's pace cite verification concerns.

Why now: Local immigrant-rights groups are publicly pushing the Reading police to respond to visa certification requests amid national immigration tensions.
