Ukraine rebuilds museum honouring controversial national figure
Original: Ukraine rebuilds museum devoted to controversial national figure
A museum in Ukraine devoted to a contentious national figure is being rebuilt, according to The Art Newspaper. The project touches on ongoing debates over how Ukraine commemorates historical personalities seen by some as heroes and by others as collaborators or promoters of ethnic violence. Reconstruction work continues even as the country defends itself against Russia's invasion, keeping wartime heritage projects moving forward.
Why now: Renovating heritage linked to divisive historical figures remains politically sensitive amid the war with Russia.
