Original: andrés manuel lópez obrador

Pío López Obrador, brother of former Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has formally requested registration with Morena to pursue a candidacy in Chiapas. The move draws attention because of his family ties to the party's founder and past scrutiny over a 2015 corruption case involving payments to him while his brother was in office, making his political return a talking point in Mexico.

Why now: The brother of Mexico's former president entering electoral politics in Chiapas is drawing fresh attention and scrutiny.
