Cricket's pink ball tests under day-night lights
Original: Cricket's day-night pink ball not always so pretty
Debate continues over cricket's day-night Test format and the pink ball used for visibility under floodlights. The ball, introduced to allow matches to extend into evening sessions, has drawn criticism from players and commentators who say it behaves unpredictably, swinging and seaming erratically, and that visibility can be difficult at dusk. Supporters argue day-night matches boost crowds and television audiences, keeping the longest format alive.
Why now: Recent or upcoming day-night Test matches have renewed scrutiny of the pink ball's reliability and its effect on the contest.
