Paris police ban October 7 'genocide' protest
Original: Paris police ban October 7 'genocide' protest over fears of rising antisemitism, heightened terror https:// lemmy.ml/pos
Paris police authorities have banned a protest planned around October 7 that referred to 'genocide', citing fears of rising antisemitism and an elevated terrorist threat. The decision means demonstrators will not be allowed to gather in the French capital for the planned event. The ban is drawing criticism from those who see it as a restriction on the right to protest, while supporters point to security concerns.
Why now: The ban touches on the highly sensitive debate over pro-Palestinian protests, antisemitism and free speech in France following the October 7 anniversary.
