Trump's Data Crackdown Now Extends to Space
Original: Guenther and Steitz on Radically Pragmatic: Trump’s War on Data Access Has Taken to the Stars
Elaine Guenther and Paul Steitz argue in the Progressive Policy Institute's Radically Pragmatic series that the Trump administration's restrictions on public data access have expanded beyond terrestrial agencies into space-related data. The authors contend that limiting access to satellite and space data undermines researchers, businesses and policymakers who depend on open government information, framing the move as a continuation of a broader assault on federal data transparency.
Why now: Fresh commentary from a think tank linking the administration's data-access restrictions to space programs is drawing attention amid ongoing debate over government transparency.
