Politkovskaya's daughter: my mother would be jailed today

Original: il post

Vera Politkovskaya, daughter of murdered Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, said in an interview with la Repubblica that if her mother were still alive today she would be in prison in Russia. Her remark underscores how repression of independent journalism in Russia has deepened since her mother's 2006 killing, and is drawing attention among Italian readers.

Why now: Renewed attention to the fate of Anna Politkovskaya amid ongoing Russian repression of journalists.
