DEVO's Mark Mothersbaugh Says the Band's Political Warnings Have Come True
Original: DEVO Frontman Mark Mothersbaugh on 1970s Pop Band Predicting Today’s Politics: “It’s Gone Really Dark Again”
Mark Mothersbaugh, frontman of the 1970s new wave band DEVO, says the group's long-running warnings about devolution and American politics have proven accurate, telling The Hollywood Reporter that things have "gone really dark again." Known for satirizing conformity and right-wing politics in songs like "Whip It," Mothersbaugh argues the themes DEVO mocked decades ago now dominate real political life.
Why now: Mothersbaugh's new comments draw fresh attention to DEVO's satirical foresight amid today's charged political climate.
