George Galloway contests London byelection without entering UK
Original: George Galloway contests London byelection without setting foot in UK https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/oct/07/g
Politician George Galloway is standing in a byelection in Holborn and St Pancras, London, without returning to Britain to campaign. The unusual arrangement has drawn attention to how an absent candidate can contest a parliamentary or council seat, with observers questioning his commitment to voters in the constituency and the practicalities of running a campaign remotely.
Why now: It is striking and unusual for a candidate to seek a UK seat while not setting foot in the country.
