US shelves Sudan arms embargo proposal amid UN Security Council divisions
The United States has shelved a proposal to impose an arms embargo on Sudan after failing to secure agreement at the UN Security Council, where members remain divided over the measure. The withdrawal leaves international efforts to curb weapons flows fueling Sudan's conflict without a concrete step, and highlights deep diplomatic splits over how to address the war.
Why now: The US abandoned its proposal because Security Council members could not agree, drawing attention to deadlocked diplomacy on Sudan's war.
