Cambridge assembles resident panel to advise on public safety technology
Original: Cambridge selects broad swath of residents to advise on use of technology in public safety
Cambridge, Massachusetts has selected a broad group of residents to serve as advisers on how the city uses technology in public safety. The panel is meant to represent a wide cross-section of the community in overseeing surveillance and other safety tech decisions. Local outlet WGBH reported the selection, which reflects growing municipal efforts to give residents a formal voice in policing technology oversight.
Why now: Cities increasingly face public debate over surveillance and policing technology, and this citizen advisory panel is a notable local response.
